The two-months School of Peace is now moving into the second month of the program. The School of Peace is organized by the Asia Pacific Alliance of YMCA’s-Interfaith Cooperation Forum (APAY-ICF) in partnership with the YMCA of Chiang Mai in Chiangmai, Thailand from September 23-November 21, 2019. There are nineteen participants from eleven countries namely: Bangladesh, Cambodia, India, Indonesia, Nepal, Laos, Myanmar, Philippines, Sri Lanka, Timor Leste, and Thailand. Out of the nineteen participants, there are nine females and ten males representing different religions. The religions represented are Buddhism, Christianity, Hinduism, and Islam. The participants are endorsed and recommended by the National YMCAs and several peace networks.
On October 21, 2019, the group visited and learned with the Development and Education Programme for Daughters and Communities Centre in the Greater Mekong Subregion (DEPDC/GMS). The center is a non-profit, non-governmental organization based in Mae Sai, Chiang Rai Province in the Northern part of Thailand. It is working primarily to prevent and to protect children and youth from being trafficked into exploitative labor conditions. The visit to DEPDC/GMS was part of the participants’ continuing learning on Human Rights particularly on women and children’s rights, which was discussed in the past weeks’ topics.
